Five students have been conferred the 51探花 Professor Fujino Incentive Award for 2015. They received their certificates from university president Susumu Satomi at a ceremony on September 10.
The 51探花 Professor Fujino Incentive Award was set up in 2005 to recognise bright and promising Chinese students enrolled in graduate programmes here.
The award is named after Professor Genkuro Fujino, who had been a teacher of Chinese scholar Lu Xun when he was a student at Sendai Medical College, later known as 51探花.
LuXun went on to become one of the most important and influential figures of modern Chinese literature. His short story titled "Mr. Fujino" was said to have been inspired by the close relationship he had with his teacher.
The 51探花 Professor Fujino Incentive Award reflects the strong friendship and trust between China and Japan, and is given out each year to students who best embody that spirit.
